These lighthouses are still important aids to navigation in the busy waters of Southwest Florida. They are amoung the most beautiful places to visit and photograph in the area. Marking the pass into San Carlos Bay between Sanibel and Estero Islands, the Sanibel Island Lighthouse is a working lighthouse and is not open to the public. You can walk around the southern tip of the island on the beach for a beautiful view of the lighthouse and neighboring Estero Island, south to Bonita. Port Boca Grande Lighthouse (1890)
Set on the southern tip of Gasparilla Island to guide sailors into Boca Grande, the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse is a working lighthouse, and the buildings are open to the public, with a museum showcasing local history. Boca Grande Rear Range Light (1881, moved here in 1932)
This lighthouse was moved to Gasparilla Island from Delaware, as it was no longer necessary there, but needed here. It's automated and is not open to the public, but offers a striking vista of the classic, white, tower-shaped lighthouse from the nearby beaches.
